Hollow Knight Cancelled For Wii U, Launching On Nintendo Switch Instead

Wii U games are either getting the cross-generation release treatment or getting canceled outright. In the case of the upcoming indie game Hollow Knight, the developers at Team Cherry have opted for the latter solution.

Perfectly Nintendo picked up news from over on the official Team Cherry website, where the developers laid out the ground rules in no uncertain terms, stating…

“Though we can confirm the Switch as a release platform, we also have to confirm that Hollow Knight will no longer make its way to the Wii U. That’s not a step we’ve taken lightly. Our Wii U release has recently been hampered by several technical challenges and though we’d love to see Hollow Knight on our favourite console, we feel the quality difference would end up such that Wii U players will be experiencing a lesser version of the game.

“We’re aiming to release the Switch version of Hollow Knight not too long after the platform’s launch.”

They don’t give an exact release date after the Nintendo Switch is scheduled to appear on store shelves on March 3rd, but they do mention that they’ll release first on Windows and then Mac, followed by Linux. They plan on getting those versions of Hollow Knight up and out within weeks of each other.

The Nintendo Switch version of the game will follow thereafter.

I haven’t been following Hollow Knight but it apparently features 149 different enemies and more than 30 different bosses.

This obviously isn’t going to be a system seller, but it does help flesh out the thin line-up of games scheduled for release on the Nintendo Switch.

The trailer is kind of charming and the visuals have their own artistic identity. I can dig it.
