Atari’s RollerCoaster Tycoon Nintendo Switch Crowdfund Angers Gamers

Atari recently started a crowdfund to bring in investors for a port of RollerCoaster Tycoon on the Nintendo Switch. They’re asking for anywhere between $10,000 and $1 million to have Nvizzio port the mobile version of the game to the Switch. However, the average gamer is having absolutely none of it.

Over on the crowdfunding page they’ve already garnered $21,000 from 33 potential investors over on the Star Page. They’re requiring at a minimum a $250 investment.

The YouTube pitch video has nearly 20,000 views and is being downvoted into oblivion.

Eurogamer pointed out that the real kicker is located at the bottom of the Star Engine page, where there’s a disclaimer that states…

“We might incur Irregular Use of Proceeds that may include but are not limited to the following over $10,000: Vendor payments and salary made to one’s self, a friend or relative; Any expense labeled “Administration Expenses” that is not strictly for administrative purposes; Any expense labeled “Travel and Entertainment”; Any expense that is for the purposes of inter-company debt or back payments.”

This resulted in plenty of gamers getting absolutely furious.

The idea that the money could be used for non-developmental purposes from a company already as established as Atari led to people actively protesting the crowdfund campaign.

Craig Morton wrote…

“People, please do not fund this. It is a scam. They are porting over a terrible mobile version, not the Rollercoaster Tycoon that we all love. Don’t let them do this. Don’t let them continue to screw everyone over. They do not deserve our money and you will not see returns on your investment. Please, for the love of all that is good in gaming, do not support this.”

Matt Perry (and not the one who made millions from starring in the NBC hit TV dramedy, Friends) commented that the recent outings in the past for RollerCoaster Tycoon has ensured that he’s staying far away from the latest game…

“Yeah I’ll be staying far away from this. RCT Touch was a joke and RCT World is a skid mark on the franchise. Go back to basics and port RCT 1/2/3 to Switch instead. Good luck with this “new” RCT game – you really need to make up for your past mistakes. Chris Sawyer is ashamed of you guys”

OfficialNerdCubed and other YouTubers didn’t have the kindest things to say about the endeavor, either.

At this point, it’s tough to tell where Atari will go from here, but it doesn’t look like they have much support from the gaming community for the port of RollerCoaster Tycoon on the Switch.
