Sonic Mania Plus Brings New Playable Characters, Physical Release This Summer

Sega, PagodaWest Games, and Headcannon have not forgotten about Sonic Mania. In fact, they just recently announced that Sonic Mania Plus is coming out this year. The new edition of the game will release for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch as a physical release sometime this summer.

To clarify what Sonic Mania Plus  is, it is a physical release version of Sonic Mania that sports brand new features for gamers and fans alike to enjoy. The physical release of Sonic Mania Plus has a due date set for this summer, but no specific day has been confirmed yet.

It is worth noting that folks who already own Sonic Mania will be able to obtain the new content in Sonic Mania Plus via a free update.

Content included will see Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel tag along, a new Encore Mode, and an expanded four-player Competition Mode to explore.

As for the first of the two characters, before Sonic the Hedgehog was introduced to the games industry, one of the character concepts was that of an armadillo. The anthropomorphic dasypodidae goes by the name of Mighty the Armadillo.

The second character is Ray the Flying Squirrel. Ray’s first appearance can be traced back to SegaSonic the Hedgehog, which was an arcade game that officially released back in 1993 in Japan.

Looking over to the physical release of Sonic Mania Plus, folks who opt to buy it will find the package will feature a holographic cover, a reversible Sega Genesis (or Mega Drive) sleeve, and an art book of Sonic Mania.

The physical version will run buyers $10 extra bucks more than the original Sonic Mania, putting the initial price point at $29.99.

Finally, if you want to secure a copy of Sonic Mania Plus early, pre-orders are set to go live on March 19th, 2018.

If you haven’t played the first title it is currently out now for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.
