Black Desert Online Studio Pearl Abyss Buys EVE Online’s CCP Games

The creators of Black Desert Online, Pearl Abyss, have announced that they have purchased EVE Online’s CCP Games. The deal will keep EVE Online operating and online, but CCP Games will begin to integrate into Pearl Abyss’ development framework.

Pearl Abyss launched Black Desert Online back in 2014 for PC. The game is scheduled to launch on the Xbox One and PS4 at an undetermined time. Earlier in 2018 Pearl Abyss saw a mega-surge in revenue thanks to launching the MMO as a mobile title in South Korea. Now the company is rolling in cash and decided to make a big move by acquiring CCP Games.

Black Desert Online - Hottie

According to Pearl Abyss CEO Robin Jung, the idea is to learn from CCP and integrate the long-term success that they achieved with EVE Online for their own MMOs, such as Black Desert Online, with Jung mentioning in the press release…

“[…] [CCP] have done an incredible job of engaging and maintaining their playerbase, which we aim to learn from and hope to integrate natively into Pearl Abyss’ general practices across all our games. I am confident CCP’s reputable IP and expertise in global publishing will help reaffirm our company’s dedication to developing and servicing the world’s best MMORPGs.”

CCP Games have tried a couple of other projects outside of EVE Online, such as Dust 514 and EVE: Valkyrie, but none of their other titles have really blossomed into the success that EVE Online achieved.

Pearl Abyss, meanwhile, is still updating and unloading new content into Black Desert Online, including announcing that the new Drieghan expansion pack is on the way and will be playable at this year’s EGX game show set to take place between September 20th and September 23rd. A gameplay overview trailer was released for the new expansion pack that you can check out below.

The expansion will contain more than 300 new quests, an all new dragon boss named Garmoth, and brand new story content, and locations such as Duvencrune.
