One Piece fans, 2D fighting game fans and 3DS fans alike should find catharsis in the three-in-one game One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum. Bringing classic fighting in the world of One Piece to the 3DS, a new trailer shows some of the playable characters. Great Pirate Colosseum is set to come out on September 21st over in Japan.
That’s right, the stretchy pirate and his crew will face off in 2D arenas in One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum on September 21st. Although fans will need to wait another month before playing the game, a demo is out now to fiddle around with on the Japanese Nintendo eShop.
As one would expect the game deals with pulling off ridicules combos and mixing more normal moves into KO worthy setups. This all coincides with the world of One Piece where you will be able to create giant legs to kick people, black holes to suck your opponents up, and other uncanny things to win.
Great Pirate Colosseum, as of now, is said to feature 23 playable characters. Although that sounds like a lot of playable characters to mess around with, there are said to be more than 80 assist characters to help you out in battle. That means there are over one hundred characters in the game! That’s a lot.
Getting to the more juicy part that I find interesting, the devs promise that the game will sport simple controls while inserting excitement through gameplay. To me, those features are important in a fighting game, because no one likes stiff moving characters that don’t respond to proper button input, which usually result in lackluster slow battles.
Aside from the controls and mechanics, the game will also feature a mode where players sail across the seas in search of teammates, and a full online battle mode.
You can watch the official trailer below that comes in by Bandai Namco.
