The Technomancer Devs Explain Why It’s 1080p, 30fps For PS4, Xbox One

The upcoming third-person action-RPG The Technomancer from development studio Spiders is moving through the development cycle towards a release for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Recently, the developers acknowledged that the resolution and frame-rate for the game on the Xbox One and PS4 will be 1080p at 30fps.

Speaking with GamingBolt, Spiders CEO Jehanne Rousseau explained why The Technomancer would run at 1080p at 30fps on the Xbox One instead of 60fps, saying…

“For a RPG like The Technomancer we preferred to achieve the best graphic quality, so we decided to stick to 1080p and 30 fps on PS4 and Xbox One.

“The 60 fps is a very interesting technical challenge, but concentrate our efforts on it would not be reasonable for us, and there would have been too many sacrifices to do on the game.

I do wonder if 60fps would have been more feasible for the PS4 or if the gains wouldn’t have been worth it compared to other areas where the game would have to be scaled back to accommodate the boost in frames?

The comments on the article basically lament that 1080p doesn’t seem like an achievable setting for this generation’s consoles and that perhaps devs should opt for 900p at 60fps where possible. Some think that scaling back to 900p and applying certain anti-aliasing techniques could help buffer the visual presentation of some games without going full 1080p and losing a lot of performance in the process.

I imagine as the generation wears on and some games opt to go for high-end rendering techniques that we’ll see 1080p slowly fade and 900p become the standard, or even 720p for games that are really demanding.

The Resolution Wars were a big part of this eighth generation of gaming due to many gamers expecting the new consoles to take a leap above the seventh-gen consoles and finally hit the resolution standard that PC gamers have been enjoying for quite a few years. However, the eighth-gen systems have had a lot of difficulty hitting 1080p at 60fps due to their hardware technical limitations. This means that this current gen will see a lot of sacrifices either in specs or in performance for some games.

In the case of The Technomancer, the game will be relegated to 1080p at 30fps on both the Xbox One and PS4.You can learn more about the game by hitting up the official website.
