ARK: Survival Evolved Dire Wolf Taming Guide

So you want to know how you tame and ride a Dire Wolf in Studio Wildcard’s ARK: Survival Evolved? Well, there’s a quick guide showcasing what you need to knockout, tame and ride a Dire Wolf in the latest update for ARK: Survival Evolved.

YouTuber KingDaddyDMAC has a video showing how to tame some of the new animals in the recent update for ARK: Survival Evolved, including the Dire Wolf and the moose. You can check it out below.

The Dire Wolves are located in the new snow biome of the game world. Once you get there it shouldn’t be too difficult to spot a wolf in the wild.

You’ll need to use about 5 tranquilizer darts if you’re using the crossbow in order to knockout the wolf. In the video he uses a tranquilizer crossbow to shoot the wolf a handful of times. If you don’t use a tranq dart and you do it the old fashioned way of pummeling the wolf over the head, put about 100 Narco berries in the wolf’s inventory while it’s unconscious to keep it down and begin the taming process.

One of the highlights of the new Dire Wolf is that it doesn’t need a saddle for players to ride it. Once you tranq a wolf and then feed it the berries to tame it, all you have to do is click on the wolf and click ‘Ride’ to ride the wolf. No need to craft a saddle.

Additionally, if you wanted to tame a moose and ride around like a renegade Canadian Mountie. You will need a saddle for the moose. It’s labeled as a Megaloceros saddle. You’ll need 200 hide, 110 fiber and 5 metal ingots to craft a Megloceros saddle for the moose.

If you manage to knock one out and tame it up in the great north of ARK’s snow caps, you can fit it on the moose, which adds 25 armor and 50 durability.

One thing to keep in mind is that since the Dire Wolves can’t use saddles they don’t get the same kind of armor rankings as the other tamable animals in the game. So technically your moose could take more hits over your Dire Wolf, unless you have a very high-level wolf.

The new biomes update is live right now for ARK: Survival Evolved and you can learn more about the update and the new dinosaurs and animals added to the game by visiting the official website.
