American Truck Simulator, Euro Truck Simulator 2 Getting Workshop Support

SCS Software has announced that instead of having to grab your mods for American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 from some third-party website, you’ll soon be able to download mods directly from Steam’s Workshop.

Given how popular user-mods have been with both titles, SCS Software has decided to put in a little effort and make it even easier for users to scour through the mod database and subscribe to the mods they like the most.

According to the press release the mod implementation with Steam Workshop support is only available in limited testing but it appears to be going well. They plan on having the full feature up and ready by version 1.23 of Euro Truck Simulator 2 and version 1.2 of American Truck Simulator.

As mentioned in the press release…

“The goal is to have a place where everybody interested in modding SCS games will find all the info needed. It should be the ultimate source covering all areas of official SCS modding tools, their documentation and tutorials, things like for example advice on how to adapt the mods to the newest game version. The Wiki will also provide additional information about our game engine and its possible configuration options.”

The mods are already out and available for both games, only players have to travel to various websites to get their hands on them. Modders have become extremely creative with what’s available and what can be downloaded, from skin textures – like the infamous Donald Trump immigration service – to all new truck models with brand new accessories, new decals and completely alterable body kits.

I imagine gamers who aren’t fond of making the leap from Steam to utilizing third-party websites will find the Workshop support a real gift from the heavens. However, those who don’t like Steam and don’t like using the Workshop can continue to stick with getting the mods off of third-party websites… in the end everyone wins.
