Uncharted 4 Goes Gold

Naughty Dog has officially announced over on their Twitter account that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has gone gold. That means that core development on the game is done and finished and the gold master disc is being shipped off to manufacturing and shipping.

The tweet keeps it short and simple, stating the following…

This news comes shortly after the announcement back on March 1st where Naughty Dog announced over on the PlayStation blog that Uncharted 4 was going to be delayed from its late April release to a May 10th release. Why? Because they needed to give the manufacturing crew more time.

Shawn Layden, the president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, stated…

“In an effort to meet the considerable worldwide demand, and to ensure that all gamers worldwide have the opportunity to play the game on day one, we have chosen to postpone the launch of the game by two weeks to allow for extra manufacturing time.”

Delayed by a few weeks is no big deal, it’s not like Uncharted fans are going to get up and go somewhere else… heck, it’s not like there’s anywhere else to go. I suppose Tomb Raider could have been an alternative but it’s certainly not in the same league as Uncharted.

This latest game is being talked about as if it’s the last and final game in the series starring Nathan Drake. It wouldn’t be a bad thing to retire the franchise and start something new, it would definitely trump beating a dead horse into a liquidy, bloody pulp.

A lot of gamers are kind of hoping Naughty Dog returns to the universe of The Last of Us, and it wouldn’t be a bad way to go about it. I would be interested in seeing what else they could pull out of that universe.

In the meantime we have Uncharted 4 to look forward to. It’s likely going to be the first real killer app that might make people get up and go out and buy a PS4 to play it. I suppose you could say Bloodborne was also that game but it was still kind of niche.

Anyway, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End drops on May 10th, exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
