The Crew, Goat Simulator, XCOM Are Free For Xbox Gamers In June

The Games With Gold for June are great. They cover a wide swathe of genres within the likes of just four games: The Crew, Goat Simulator, XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Super Meat Boy.

Over on Major Nelson’s blog the four games were revealed as the Games With Gold specials for those subscribed to Xbox Live Gold. Goat Simulator will be available between June 1st and June 30th for Xbox One gamers, along with Ubisoft’s The Crew, which will be available between July 16th and July 15th. For Xbox 360 owners, Super Meat Boy will be available bwteen June 1st and June 15th, while XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be available between June 16th and June 30th.

There’s a brief promo video below you can check out to see each of the games in action to get an idea of what you can expect from the June offerings for Games With Gold.

I am by no means a fan of paying for multiplayer, but I do have to admit that Microsoft has been knocking it out of the park with the combination of backwards compatible titles and their free Games With Gold program. You can build up an ample library for your Xbox One with just two month’s worth of Xbox Live. Even if you bought a card worth two month’s of the service, you would have eight games and hundreds of dollars worth of games in your library easy. It’s actually a heck of a lot better than PlayStation Plus since when your Xbox Live Gold subscription runs out you still get to keep your digital games, where-as with PlayStation Plus you lose access to those games when you stop paying for PS Plus.

The only problem with the offering for June is that I fear by the time a bunch of Xbox One owners get their hands on a free copy of The Crew it’ll be little more than a ghost town, since it’s an always-on multiplayer only game and those usually don’t retain audiences for very long unless they’re a Blizzard game or Destiny.

The Games With Gold news follows on a collection of other titles launching for Xbox One, including #IDARB: Tightwad Edition, Tropico 5: Penultimate Edition and Overwatch. They also announced that pre-loads and pre-ordering for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided have also opened for the Xbox One.

You can look to grab the free games from the Xbox store starting in June. May’s selection of free games included Sunset Overdrive, which was one of the few worthwhile exclusives for Microsoft’s console.
