Titanfall Devs Are Working On And Hiring For A New Star Wars Game

Electronic Arts is making the most of their deal with Disney by teaming with LucasFilm on a new Star Wars game. They’ve contracted Respawn Entertainment to take up the development helm on the new title, which will be in the works alongside whatever the new Star Wars game is that Visceral Games – headed up by Amy Hennig and Jade Raymond – are also working on.

Over on the Respawn blog, creative lead Stig Asmussen, wrote out an impassioned post about his love for Star Wars and how excited the rest of the boys and girls at Respawn Entertainment were for the upcoming project that they’ve been pegged to tackle.

The thing is, the post doesn’t say anything about what the game will be about, which era it will take place in, or what players will actually do. We do find out that it will be a third-person action-adventure game. According to Asmussen, they’ve already assembled a small team but they need to ramp up the production so they’re looking to hire, with Asmussen writing…

“Now, I understand on the surface this might sound a bit dry, but developing a game within the ever-expanding Star Wars universe opens up so many paths for us to go down, and an unparalleled playground to design within. We have already planted the seeds by assembling a small, but incredibly talented team, ready for the amazing journey that lies ahead. With this in mind we are looking to expand the dream.”

If you’re not a drama-hound looking to stir up trouble and try to topple the company from the inside out (like what happened with Trendy Entertainment) definitely feel free to check out the career page on the Respawn website to learn more about the positions they have available and who they’re looking to bring into the fold to help make their dream Star Wars game turn into a reality.

They’re looking for the following:
• Camera Designer
• Creature Concept Artist
• Environment Concept Artist
• Level Designer
• Senior Systems Designer
• Software Engineer
• Technical Artist
• Vehicle/Weapon Concept Artist
• VFX Artist

I wonder if this game will be similar to Jedi Knight or Knights of the Old Republic? More action-oriented or more story-oriented? We at least know that there will be operable vehicles in the game based on the descriptions they laid out for the vehicle/weapon concept artist position. Again, though, that doesn’t tell us much given that Star Wars properties always have a bunch of cool and unique space age vehicles. At least we know that the game will be somewhat ambitious.

Even still, I won’t be holding my breath until I see some prototype footage. Until then it’s just hype and dreams.

Anyway, I’m hopeful we’ll get a small teaser at this year’s E3 just to hold us over until the game is finally finished.
