Battleborn’s Microtransactions Go Live June 16th

If you were hoping to increase your affinity with Battleborn, Gearbox decided that the best way to make the gaming community more receptive to their first-person shooter was to include in-game microtransactions.

Blues picked up the news from a post that was made over on the official Battleborn website where Gearbox stated…

“We know what you’re thinking. Don’t worry! When we expand the Battleborn Marketplace on June 16th, we’ll be offering premium taunts and skins that will not affect gameplay at all (warning: may make your teammates and opponents incredibly jealous). This optional, cosmetic content we’ve created comes in addition to all the skins and taunts we’ve already put in the game.”

If Battleborn didn’t seem all that interesting to you before, Gearbox felt like adding microtransactions to the game would be the surefire way to get you interested in their game. I mean, it’s not like players don’t like microtransactions, right? It’s not like a certain on-disc DLC caused people to rebel against Capcom during Street Fighter X Tekken‘s launch, right? Oh wait…

Anyway, they break down the prices of the DLC on the page, giving gamers an idea of what the microtransaction packs will cost in Battleborn. You can check it out below.

  • $1.99 for 230 Platinum
  • $4.99 for 700 Platinum
  • $9.99 for 1625 Platinum
  • $19.99 for 3500 Platinum
  • $49.99 for 9300 Platinum

Players can use the in-game platinum to purchase the skins and cosmetic items to deck out each of the characters.

According to the Gearbox post, this is just the beginning. In addition to microtransactions, Battleborn will get even better with the inclusion of paid DLC. That’s right, microtransactions and DLC.

The post states…

“On top of [the microtransactions], the first five Battleborn DLC Packs will have EVEN MORE skins and taunts that are only unlockable by playing the Story Operations and will not be sold individually in the Marketplace. “

As you can see in the SteamDB chart below, it appears as if gamers are absolutely loving Battleborn.

How amazing is that? They’ve managed to retain about 1.5k members of their original player base. I’m sure these microtransactions and the premium DLC packs will go over really well and get those numbers even lower than before.

You can look for the microtransactions to go live for Battleborn starting June 16th, and the paid DLC packs will arrive shortly thereafter. For more info feel free to visit the official website. Battleborn is available right now for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
