A new 3D, hack-and-slash game themed around Norse mythology called Vikings: Wolves of Midgard, has been announced. The game seems to draw back to the classic God of War games, putting players in the role of blood-lusting Vikings.
The story sounds righteous, as players take on the role of the chief of a group of ostracized Vikings known as the Wolves of Midgard during the budding turmoil of Ragnarok. After their home has been destroyed by raging Jotan, the Ulfung Wolves of Midgard set out to kill all who stand in their way… it just so happens that the Jotan are the ones there to bring ruin and destruction to Asgard and they’re in the way of the Ulfung.
Players will guide the Wolves of Midgard through a ripping, tearing and slashing spree against the combined forces of the Frost Giants and the Fire Giants. Players will have bows, shields, axes, swords, hammers and other sharp and pointed weapons at their disposal as they take on the old gods in a fight to save their land.
The game takes on the old-school design of hack-and-slash games, where players will have berserker rage at their fingertips to destroy any and everything that stands in their path. There will be giants to topple with your sword, dire wolves to tame with your hammer, and all manner of mythological beasts to slay with your axes.
What’s more is that Kalypso Media is promising destructible environments that can be used to damage foes, as well as the ability to build up your character, beat the game and unlock a New Game+, which is sometimes a rarity these days even though it seemed like common practice back in the 1990s and early aughts.
According to the press release, Vikings: Wolves of Midgard will be released in early 2017 for the Xbox One, the PS4 and the PC. You can keep track of the upcoming isometric RPG by visiting the official website.
