It looks like Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment haven’t completely given up on PC gaming. They seem to want to bridge their relationship with PC gamers once more. How do they want to repair the trust that was broken with the Glorious PC Master Race? Well, they seem to have a beta test running now for Mortal Kombat XL and this is ahead of what appears to be an official launch of that version for PC gamers on Steam.
Rock, Paper, Shotgun did a quick write-up on the occurrence that they spotted on the Steam page for Mortal Kombat X. If you head there ahead of August 29th, you’ll see that they have a notice informing owners of the game that they can join in on the beta.
According to a topic that isn’t readily made public on the main store page, a Warner Bros., rep introduced the new mod team for Mortal Kombat XL for the enhanced online beta test, as well as informed users about WB’s plans to run beta tests for the XL edition of the game on PC, writing…
“Beginning today and for the next 4 days only, anyone can play the MKXL Enhanced Online PC Beta for free and experience the enhanced rollback system and other updates made for our PC players.”
Yes, that’s right… you can play Mortal Kombat XL for free to test out some of the new features ahead of what will be its eventual launch on PC.
There’s no telling what the time-frame will be when this launches in full on PC, or if Warner Bros., is just re-testing the waters for an eventual return to supporting PC again, but at least they’re trying. This also opens the door for a possible release of Injustice 2 on PC down the line… or at least, we can hope.
You can participate in the Mortal Kombat XL beta test right now on PC by visiting the Steam store page.
