Sony recently released the Shingen update for PS4, version 4.00. It features the much-anticipated HDR, high-dynamic range, output settings for TVs with that sort of support as well as the all new quick menu option for music.

Over on the PlayStation Blog the SIEA branding VP, John Koller rolled out the list of updates from the 4.00, which included a number of features, including an update to the What’s New tab to let you see what your friends are up to via the activity feed, and a new content info screen that easily lets you see the properties, stats, trophies and details of a game with the simple press of a button.

The new data transfer mode has also been implemented to make the transfer of data from a standard PS4 to a PS4 Pro a pain-free process. And there’s also the new Remote Play features that adds 1080p and 60fps options for those playing on PC and Mac. The 1080p and 60fps options is in lieu of the upcoming release of the PS4 Pro, and will also enable gamers to live-stream at 1080p and 60fps on YouTube. Sadly Twitch will be stuck at 1080p and a paltry 30fps. Share Play will also support 1080p resolution options for the PS4 Pro.

The Quick Menu has also been updated to allow users to load in music and their playlists from music apps like Spotify. You can literally quickly queue up your favorite tunes without having to go all the way back to the dashboard. You can even quickly pick out the songs you want to listen to through the quick-select option from the custom playlists.

A lot of these features are already present on the Xbox One (save for the hardware level native HDR output) and it’s kind of funny seeing Sony playing catch-up as they attempt to roll out these features ahead of the launch of the PS4 Pro, which they seem to be hoping to help curb the momentum that Microsoft has managed to build up following the release of the Xbox One S.

You won’t have to wait too long for the PS4 Pro, though. The system is due to drop (complete without a 4K Blu-ray drive) on November 10th.
