I suppose the biggest issue I have is that the specs for these eighth gen titles have skyrocketed but the graphics haven’t gotten much better than what they were last gen. The one thing that I’m really starting to see, however, is that the graphics seemed to be catered toward running running games at minimum specifications at higher than usual resolutions. For instance, like with the recent Titanfall 2 system specs, the info is fine tuned around the concept of running the game at a minimum resolutionf o 1600 x 900 on medium settings. So it’s not actually the bare minimum specs for booting the game up but the bare minimum specs for running the game on medium settings.
In the case of Resident Evil 7, they note in the system specs that the minimum requirements are for running the game at 1080p and 30fps. The recommended settings are for 1080p at 60fps.
In both cases, the specs are tuned for higher than minimum standards. I’m curious what the actual minimum requirements are just to run the game at maybe 720p at 30fps on the lowest graphics settings? While a lot of the system specs for newer games are geared toward PCs made within the last two or three years, the reality is that those specs are far higher than what the home consoles are capable of. So either that means the PC ports are poorly optimized or the specs are being padded.
Regardless, you can look for Resident Evil 7 to launch on PC, Xbox One, PS4, PS4 Pro and for the PlayStation VR, starting next year in January.
