Friday The 13th Delayed To 2017 Due To Expanded Single-Player Mode

Now here’s a complete twist on the reason for a game being delayed: Gun Media and Illfonic have decided to expand on Friday The 13th: The Game and give it a playable, offline single-player mode and therefore they had to delay the game from a late 2016 release to a summer, 2017 release.

According to IGN, Friday The 13th: The Game will include a mode where players will be able to control long-time series character Tommy Jarvis, and that the game is being expanded to include working AI bots to flesh out the single-player mode.

The article states that there will be a closed multiplayer beta for Kickstarter backers to dabble in the gameplay of the upcoming, asymmetrical multiplayer title. This will give backers an idea of what’s going on with the game and where it’s headed as far as gameplay and mechanics are concerned. They’ll also likely use that opportunity to refine the options and give gamers opportunities to offer feedback on what works, what doesn’t and how certain things can be improved.

They plan on releasing the full multiplayer component by spring of 2017, and make Tommy Jarvis a playable character in the game as well. They also plan on releasing the Packanack Lodge as a third playable map for the multiplayer release. The single-player offline mode won’t be fully available until summer, 2017.

The game will carry a $40 digital price-tag while the retail edition for the Xbox One and PS4 will be $60.

Based on the little that I’ve seen of the game it looks pretty good. Dead By Daylight is using a similar concept and it works well enough with the asymmetric design and stealth-oriented gameplay. So Behavior Interactive managed to prove that the concept works, we’ll just have to wait and see if Illfonic will be able to execute the same concept in a quality manner with Friday The 13th: The Game.
