Free Left 4 Dead Campaign, Dam It, Now Available For Download

The original developers of the first Left 4 Dead, Turtle Rock Studios, released a free campaign mission for the game called Dam It. It obviously takes place around a dam.

The news was made over on the official Turtle Rock Studios site, where they announced that the campaign was available for Left 4 Dead players… for free…

“Just finished putting the Dam campaign that we streamed a while back into a L4D addon. It’s gray box, and some code features are missing but it’s playable from beginning to end. It also includes two standalone survival maps that never shipped.”

Gray box basically means that it’s a grade above the white box prototype phase, meaning that all the features are intact, all the playable spots are available and players can go from start to finish and interact with most of the working mechanics within the map. As they mention, though, some of the stuff might be missing or might be bugged, so you’ll just have to make do.

Gamers have already started downloading and playing the map, and posting screenshots up over on Steam.

The map has a lot of interesting parts to it that they outline over on Auger Resources. They explain that some of the features don’t work, such as fire, smoke and explosions not triggering panic events in the hangars, and that the zombies sometimes don’t crawl in the orchard, and that the covered bridge doesn’t collapse with explosions.

One of the more egregious features that’s missing is the dam spawn point not having health kits or weapons, so you’ll have to use some real skill when you get to that point.

The map starts in an airfield, works its way through the hangars and fuel storage, then through an apple orchard, a small ravine, and then a forest, a rickety old bridge, an RV campground, a burning forest, and then a mini-finale taking place in a quarry of sorts that leads up to a big ‘ole finish at a hydro dam.

You can download the mod right now from over on the Auger Resources download page. The addon can be used like many others available on the Steam Workshop for the original Left 4 Dead.
