A lot of people had a lot of questions about the story in Final Fantasy XV. Square Enix isn’t done with the game and they plan on releasing a free update featuring certain kinds of content that we discussed before. For one, they clarified that the New Game+ will be free, along with potential modifiers such as low-level runs and a god mode feature.
They laid out the details of this new content in a post over on the official Square Enix blog, where director Hajime Tabata explained that there will be additional extensions to the story, character costumes and playable characters in future updates that they plan to roll out for free.
Most importantly was the revelation that story content would be added to flesh out the cinematics and some character motivations, specifically for Ravus, who many felt seemed at odds in the game with how he was portrayed in Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV. Tabata states…
“[…] we’re hoping to delve deeper into the story, adding scenes that will give you new insight into character motivations, such as why Ravus walked the path he did. We will need a little time with these, as they’ll need to be localized and voiced in other languages, but we’ll let you know the details once everything is set.”
Previously, during a live-stream in Japan, they revealed the New Game+ as well as a super boss fight against the Square Enix CEO.
The blog post explains the quality of life content and other accessibility features and replayability modes will be separate from the DLC they have planned. Tabata also lists what DLC will be released for the game soon, reminding gamers that it’s still on the way.

Given the way Final Fantasy XV ended, many gamers are hoping the DLC for each character delves deep into the missing segments that were hinted at throughout the main game, such as when Prompto was captured, or when Gladiolus left the group briefly and met back up with Noct at the power plant sporting some fresh new scars, or when Ignis was battling the Empire and monsters was blinded during battle.
It’s nice to know that they plan on adding these new features – the non-DLC – for free as part of the game’s standard patching and update procedures. It would have been nice if stuff like New Game+ was in there at launch, but I guess with all the delays they wanted to get it out before the end of the holiday season and milk in that sweet, sweet cash.
