Following the removal of nearly a dozen staff members in the wake of the corruption conspiracy involving South Korean President Park Geun-hye, the South Korean lawmakers have decided to heed the pleas of the people and take action against the disgraced President by voting to impeach her.

According to Sputnik News, 234 lawmakers voted in favor to have Park impeached. 56 of the 300 members of parliament voted against impeachment.

Sputnik News also reported that the Defense Minister ordered all branches of South Korea’s armed forces to strengthen their “combat readiness” in light of the impeachment results. This was further corroborated by a report from the Straits Times, who indicated that weakened leadership and an abruptly appointed Prime Minister has left the country in “political turmoil”.

For those out of the loop, President Park Geun-hye was implicated in a corruption scandal where a close friend and non-political adviser was writing speeches for the President and allegedly working to funnel funds from major corporations within South Korea into private foundation accounts.

The more outlandish claims alleged that there was an “8 Goddesses” conspiracy involving powerful female businesswomen pulling the strings behind Park Geun-hye and dictating the outcome of South Korea’s economy, which was outlined in the original article here at One Angry Gamer, as well as media outlets such as The Telegraph and The National Post.

This is partially good news for people who may have lost faith in the institution of government establishments, seeing corruption run rampant without consequence. Well, this time around there has been some measure of consequence, but the future of South Korea remains hazy, and there still doesn’t appear to be a clear direction on what’s to become of the nation now that this particular issue has been handled.
