If you want to play Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption on PC you can either wait for the PS3 emulator to get good or you can slap down $100 a year for a PlayStation Now subscription.

Sony announced over on the PlayStation Blog that the best-selling open-world Western game from Rockstar Games will join PlayStation Now on December 6th for both PC and PlayStation 4.

SCEE’s junior product manager, Ben Thorpe, laid out a quick and dirty news post to give gamers the heads up that Red Dead Redemption would be made available December 6th on PlayStation Now and that gamers interested in the experience could purchase a DualShock 4 wireless controller and start a free trial of PlayStation Now to get in on the action.

Unfortunately, PlayStation Now costs $100 a year to subscribe. The cloud streaming service was Sony’s answer to backwards compatibility, but it certainly wasn’t a very good answer for most gamers.

Microsoft did the more honorable thing and simply let Xbox One owners play Xbox 360 games via backwards compatibility. They further extended this capability to PC gamers running Windows 10. So if you have an Xbox One and a Windows 10 PC, you can stream games from your Xbox One (including Xbox 360 games that are backwards compatible within your library) right to your PC.

In this regards, I think Sony is trailing way far behind when it comes to their backwards compatibility solutions. Then again, they’re leading quite well when it comes to sales, so they probably don’t care too much for not having the same sort of service offerings as Microsoft when it comes to backwards compatibility.

Nevertheless, if you honestly can’t wait for better emulation to surface and if you already have a PlayStation Now subscription, you can check out Red Dead Redemption starting next week on December 6th.
