One of the most anticipated games due for release in the early half of 2017 has finally gone gold. Producer Yosuke Saito took to Twitter to express his excitement about Nier: Automata finally achieving the development milestone that signifies its completion.
Gematsu spotted the tweet over on Twitter, which you can check out below.
最近の流行りらしいから書けと言われたので書きますが、「ニーア オートマタはマスターアップしました!(随分前に)」というわけで、発売まで諸々よろしくお願い申し上げます。 #NieR pic.twitter.com/BPOyNipM08

The tweet explains that the game had actually gone gold a while back, and Saito explains that it seemed like today’s “fad” or trend is for developers to “declare” when a game goes gold so that’s why he let his followers know that the game’s development was complete and that it will be making its February 23rd release date in Japan and the March 7th release in North America.
It does make sense that it has gone gold a while back so that they can have time for shipping manufacturing and distributing the physical copies, but the news is just making its way into headlines on enthusiast websites recently.
Nier: Automata has a heck of a lot of momentum heading into its release on PS4 later this month and next month in the West. It will be followed by a release on PC sometime later in the year but a specific date hasn’t been ironed out yet.
The game had recently undergone a nontroversy in the form of some jokers giving the lead protagonist a visible butthole under her skirt, leading to a few websites falling for the bait and running headlines based on the fake image. Later it was revealed that the image was actually taken from a Photoshop manipulation based on a game called Honey Select from IllusionSoft, which is an adult-themed game designed for adult themed purposes.
Anyway, the action-oriented RPG is bound to help Platinum Games recover after the recent news about Scalebound being cancelled for the Xbox One.
