Stoic Studios managed to surpass their initial $200,000 Kickstarter goal within seven days of being on the crowdfunding platform for their upcoming turn-based strategy game, The Banner Saga 3. They recently sent out word that not only have they managed to surpass their goal but they’re now gunning for the first stretch goal at $250,000.
John Watson, co-founder and technical director at Stoic, commented about the milestone achievement while they still have more than a month left to go to crowdfund The Banner Saga 3, stating in the press release…
“We’re thrilled to have funded the Kickstarter in less than a week. Once again it’s down to the amazing support of the community, and we truly appreciate every backer that has helped us reach our funding goal”
“This is huge for us and have now revealed the first stretch goal! A big thanks again to all of our supporters for helping us get this far.”
At the $250,000 stretch goal there will be playable Dredge added to the game. The three classes will include the Dredge Stoneguard, Hurler and Stonesinger. For those of you unfamiliar with The Banner Saga lore, the Dredge are some evil SOBs who have ruined many a lives for the traveling band of Nordic survivors throughout the trilogy. So it will be very interesting to see how this all plays out with them being playable in the game.
The Banner Saga 3 will be the conclusion for the trilogy that started with the original Banner Saga back in 2014. The sequel launched in the spring of 2016 last year and now they have plans on closing it out by getting the third game out in 2018.
Stoic has done a fine job of avoiding trying to milk the series like some companies who establish brands in the gaming industry. Slow and steady wins the race.
We know now that they at least have the money to finish the core game of The Banner Saga 3, but anything they get within the next 34 days will be to make that third game the best that it can be.
