Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild: How To Get The Master Sword

The most powerful sword in Link’s arsenal throughout the history of The Legend of Zelda is the Master Sword. The Master Sword makes an appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It’s not an easy sword to get your hands on, and whether you’re playing on the Nintendo Switch or the Wii U, there’s a walkthrough guide available to explain how to get your hands on the Master Sword in Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

First up, you’ll need to venture through the Lost Woods. There’s a mist surrounding the3 forest and the objective is to navigate through the forest while avoiding the the thick parts of the mist. When you see the mist getting thicker, be sure to run back to escape its grasp, as demonstrated in the video below from Luigikid Gaming.

Once you get through the Lost Forest mist maze, you’ll be able to venture into Korok Forest. When you get to Korok Forest, it’s probably best to mark it on your map so you’ll know how or where to get to it in case you have to come back.

Once through the open tree trunk and passed the clearing, Link will happen upon the Master Sword, stuck in a stone in front of the great Deku Tree.

However, there’s a bit of a trick to getting the Master Sword out of the stone. There’s a mini-game to complete the quest “The Hero’s Sword”.

You will need at least 13 hearts.

Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild Master Sword Quest

The mini-game requires players to hold down the ‘A’ button while Link uses his might to pull the Master Sword from the stone. In doing so, the sword will drain Link’s hearts. Hence why you need 13 hearts.

In order to get the hearts you’ll need to complete the shrine challenges and pray to the shrine statues to upgrade Link’s health.

If you attempt to retrieve the sword before you have 13 hearts you will fail and Link will lose all his health. The great Deku Tree will stop Link before he dies.

Once the sword is retrieved, it will unlock one of Link’s memories showing Zelda putting the sword into the stone following Link’s demise at the hands of Calamity Ganon’s forces.

You can’t throw the Master Sword away like other weapons, but it can lose its power if you over-use it. So use it with caution.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available right now for the Wii U and the Nintendo Switch.
