Studio Wildcard may be receiving plenty of heat for their latest patch that nerfed the flying dinosaurs in ARK: Survival Evolved, but that hasn’t stopped players from attempting to make good on the latest dino added to the game, the horse-like Equus.
For gamers keen on getting their hands on the Equus and riding around like a stallion in prehistoric times, there’s a quick guide to help you not only find the horse-like creature but also tame it.
There’s a 16 minute video from TagBack TV featuring a step-by-step guide on how to get your hands the new creature. You can check it out below.
So first up you’ll need to head to a grassland area where you’ll find it roaming in some clearings, usually just outside forested areas. The exact coordinates (even though the spawns might be random) are 47 x 78.
You’ll need the carrot, called a Rockarrot, and you’ll need to approach it slowly and feed the Equus the carrot. In doing so, you’ll be able to mount the horse-like creature and attempt to tame it.
A short mini-game will ensue where you’ll be on the horse, riding wildly and you’ll need to press ‘E’ to hop on it and tame it.
The horse will run wild and every time it jumps up, feed it a rockarrot or a kibble to keep it calm.
While this takes place, you’ll see that there’s a taming counter at the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Keep an eye on that counter because you’ll need to keep the Equus calm until that meter reaches 100%.
TagBack TV mentions that you’ll need to keep the horse fed every time it bucks. You’ll briefly see the icon flash at the bottom of the screen with the food.
Once it’s tamed you can name it and saddled it if you have a saddle.
You can use ‘C’ to buck the horse to taunt opponents, while right-clicking on the mouse will allow you to use a kick attack. The back-kick can actually be used to knock out enemies or other dinosaurs.
Once you craft a saddle you can add it to your horse. Once the saddle is situated on the horse you can craft a lasso using thatch and fiber. The lasso can only be used on the Equus, and it has a limited number uses. Lassos also only works on smaller creatures, so anything that’s the size of a raptor or larger cannot be lassoed.
