Rime by publisher Grey Box and developers Tequila Works and QLOC released on May 26th for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, which is set to release later this year for the Nintendo Switch. Now that the game is playable, hopefully this guide will help newcomers and how to use these tips and tricks to get ahead in the game.
Notice: This guide is for beginners and not for people who have already played the game, meaning that potential spoilers lie ahead. In addition, this guide is aimed at beginners looking to understand some of the basics or seeking tips and tricks to get ahead in the puzzle adventure game known as Rime.
With the notice out of the way, the official description explaining what players will be doing in Rime lies below:
“A land of discovery stretches out before you. Explore the beautiful, rugged world of RiME. Armed with your wits and a will to overcome—and the guidance of a helpful fox—you must explore the enigmatic island, reach the tower’s peak, and unlock its closely guarded secrets.”
Climbable Ledges
In Rime, players are able to climb ledges, objects or other surfaces by looking out for white marks that are meant to help players in what can be climbed. It’s always best to look out for these types of marks to help when you are stuck.
Fox Guide
The fox is meant to help players out in the game and will act as a guide. Upon staying in an area or trying to solve a puzzle for too long, the fox will appear and help direct you by dropping hints. In other words, investigate the fox whenever it appears and when you feel stuck.
Exploration and Being Careful
Like in the older Mario games where if you’d advanced a tiny bit there was no going back, because the only way to end a stage was to keep going forward or, well… to lose all lives. There are some segments in Rime like that that do not allow you to go back, this means that you should be careful when exploring, jumping off of ledges and visiting newer places before exploring every area of an older place to find all collectibles.
Items and Collectibles
Let’s say that you as a beginner complete Rime without finding every collectible, but you’ve found some through your first play-through, and seek to start a new game, will they carry over? The short answer to that question is yes. If you start a new game you will be able continue finding and adding other items and collectibles to your existing list.
Colors
It is best to keep in mind that not every puzzle will reflect the exact colors given below, but hopefully the colors listed should help provide a general ideal as to what may work during a certain puzzle/situation.
Like the white marker near ledges, green-like objects are usually affected by your voice; whether it be humming or shouting. Yellow means interactive in that you can physically alter things by touch when you see a sparkle around an object. And lastly, Red usually indicates that an object will initiate an event related to the story.
And that’s basically it to this guide. Rime is currently out right now for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, and will hit the Nintendo Switch later this year.
