Sonic The Hedgehog Comics Will Return In 2018 Under IDW Publishing

Sega announced that they have teamed up with IDW Publishing to continue the Sonic The Hedgehog comic book line that they recently brought to cessation under the Archie Comics label.

The announcement once again came courtesy of a tweet from the official Sonic The Hedgehog Twitter account, which posted up a brief message from the announcement that took place on July 21st, 2017.

If you’re unable to read the message or have some sort of visual impairment, the announcement simply states that Sega and IDW Publishing have teamed up together with a new licensing deal that will see a new line of comic books featuring Sonic and his friends launching in 2018.

According to Chris Ryall, IDW’s chief creative officer, he stated in the press announcement…

“We’ve been speaking with beloved Sonic fan-favorite creators and new creators alike, and are excited to be able to spread specifics about our plans for the comic in the near future.”

Sega believes that IDW Publishing will be a good home for the blue speedster and his fast-moving exploits.

Sega just recently announced that they had ended their partnership with Archie Comics after more than 25 years of having collaborated with the publisher across multiple Sonic The Hedgehog comic book outings, including one comic that had been running since 1993.

Reasons for the switch were not divulged, but some fans noted that Archie Comics have taken a turn for the worst after focusing more on Social Justice Warrior issues and putting a focus on Liberal

IDW Publishing is known for also producing comics such as Street Fighter x G.I. Joe, along with The Family Circus and various other licensed based comic books including but not limited to Doctor Who, Star Trek, CSI and Transformers, along with My Little Pony and Underworld.

In a way, Sonic should fit right in with all the other licensed properties under the IDW Publishing label, and it makes for some wicked possibilities of Sonic possibly having a crossover with some Hasbro brands, assuming such a thing could ever come to fruition.
