If you’re playing on PC, you have the option of playing with a keyboard and mouse or with a game controller. Much like Legend of Zelda, you can talk to NPCs by running around and talking to them using the ‘X’ button on the Xbox controller or Square on the DualShock 4. You can see what the gameplay is like and check out the mechanics with a guided video walkthrough series from YouTuber Aavak.

After getting a basic mission briefing from Aaerie about finding her family, you’ll end up in a cave with a wreck.

If you examine the glowing wreck in the center of the cave you’ll find a fairy sprite named Lumie.

You will need Lumie in order to get out of the cave by removing the murk.

Use up on the digital pad to use the compass in order to find where you need to go in order to complete a quest.

There are a number of items and resources you can collect along the way. One of the things you can do in the game is pick up items on the ground and expand your compendium by examining things around the world. If you see an example there will usually be a prompt that pops up. Interact with the prompt and you’ll add the item to your journal and further progress through the title.

You’ll encounter your first resource gathering tool from the NPC Sly Mc’Wiley, who will give you a scythe. You can use it to complete a quest for Mc’Wiley and earn the Scythe.

You can cycle between tools and weapons using the left and right bumper on the Xbox or DualShock controller.

If you head to the small village you can rest and restore your stats after talking to Master Low, who will offer you room and board and some new clothes.

One thing that’s different in Yonder compared to other games is that there’s a barter system in place so instead of just acquiring currency and buying things, you can acquire goods and trade certain amounts of items for other items.

You’ll also need to head to the East Docks to help one of the dock workers to restore the docks and then you can acquire the sprite Lock, who can then help you remove more of the Murk from the world.

Once you acquire a hammer you’ll also be able to finally break wooden boxes. You can acquire additional resources such as coal and other minerals that can be used for both crafting and bartering.

Head back into the town of Fairmont and talk to Hugh, who will guide you through the process of bartering and crafting. Basically, you’ll need to first discover a recipe and gather the appropriate items before you’re able to craft things.

You can also access new areas you may have missed out on before by breaking down wooden barricades or doors.

You can head back to your starting point and after crafting five items talk to the Sage Stone and you will unlock the ability to head to the main hub that allows you to access the different biomes in Yonder.

Once you complete the basic quests during the tutorial phase, including the crafting quests and fetch quests, talk to Bushel and he will open up the next segment of the game: farming.

The farm will unlock a number of new craftables, including pens, troughs, and a few other trinkets. You can place down the items using the Big Book located just inside the farm area.

You’ll also find another sprite inside the haystack at the corner of the farm area. Grumble will be located in the far left corner of the farm, simply go over there and interact with it to acquire the sprite.

Now if you want to edit your South Field Farm, you can go interact with the big book. This will allow you to place down structures in your farm. Use the left and right bumpers to rotate the objects, as showcased in the video below.

Once you place down the animal pen, you can tame animals and bring them back to your pen. Bushel will give you a recipe for Celium seed, which you can then use to feed Groffles and then lure them to your farm by giving the Celium seed to any nearby Groffle.

Once the Groffle has hearts emitting from its head, it will follow you to the animal pen, where you’ll be asked whether or not you want to adopt the animal. You can recruit other animals as well by feeding them the necessary items when prompted to do so.

Go talk to Master Low in Fairmount once you complete all those basic tasks and he will direct you to
Cinderton to acquire more ore.

Don’t forget that you can also continue to remove the Murk after acquiring enough Sprites to remove it from the land.

You can also acquire a fishing rod from Theodore near a small lake.

There’s a tutorial to teach you how to fish once you talk to Theodore and he gives you an old fishing rod. You’ll need to acquire one Nackle Fish for him to complete the fishing tutorial quest.
