The Creation Club is a community utility by Bethesda made to help modders to develop and create big and unique content as well as miniature DLCs for the community to enjoy… or so they say. There is a lot of people out there praising Bethesda right now that could potentially sway others into thinking that the Creation Club isn’t as detrimental as you may think it really is at this moment.
The Creation Club hasn’t even been out for a month and a slew of contradictions, questionable business practices, and other unfavorable actions have been committed within the time-span of a week, which is just wrong on too many different levels.
For starters, the first thing broken within the release of this shady program is the use of an older mod named Chinese Stealth Armor that was featured on this very website. The following that contradicts itself on the program’s main page lies below for you to read over:
Is Creation Club paid Mods?
No. Mods will remain a free and open system where anyone can create and share what they’d like. Also, we won’t allow any existing mods to be retrofitted into Creation Club, it must all be original content. Most of the Creation Club content is created internally, some with external partners who have worked on our games, and some by external Creators. All the content is approved, curated, and taken through the full internal dev cycle; including localization, polishing, and testing. This also guarantees that all content works together. We’ve looked at many ways to do “paid mods”, and the problems outweigh the benefits. We’ve encountered many of those issues before. But, there’s a constant demand from our fans to add more official high quality content to our games, and while we are able to create a lot of it, we think many in our community have the talent to work directly with us and create some amazing new things.”
All new content must be submitted otherwise it will be rejected, but what is the Road to Liberty team and modder Unoctium’s Chinese Stealth Armor doing on the main page when it is featured both on NexusMods and Bethesda’s mod page? What makes it even worse is that they don’t even credit the modders for their hard work, meaning that they get paid but not recognized on the front page for fans and gamers alike to see.
In addition to the above, it becomes much worse the further you start to examine the whole program.
The Bad, Terrible, No Good Start
The start of the whole thing was solely words and not factual evidence that Bethesda and crew would work with modders to create worthwhile content that’s worth paying for. Instead, they mention payed mods and so on stirring up the community to remember past actions, which it would have been better to contact people like Sir Bumfrey Diggles to show merit of the Creation Club.
This Sir Bumfrey Diggles is assumed to be a one-man-army working on a full Fallout 4 conversion mod that will place all of Fallout New Vegas into said game. We also covered this very mod on this site, which progress on the mod can be seen below:
- Nipton
- Mojave Outpost
- Nevada Highway Patrol Station
- Lonesome Road Trail
- Bison Steve Hotel First Floor
- Primm
Instead of Bethesda putting out a search team to find other mods like Sir Bumfrey Diggles’ mod, they instead picked the cheapskate route that showcase mods that you can download right now over on NexusMods, Bethesda’s official mod page or some other website all for free.
At this moment the only platform that sorta benefits from the Creation Club is PS4 and that’s only due to Sony’s current policy with mods, if you are on PC or Xbox One you are duping yourself by contributing to said program.
Bloatware At Its Finest
You know what’s one of the many wares that are dangerous, bloatware. Well, Bethesda has professionally added bloatware through the Creation Club and now in Fallout and Skyrim, as elaborated by YongYea.
The top comment on “Fallout 4 Creation Club Now Live” post further illustrates another problem. A certain user by the name of Actioncomics had this to say:
“Some people like me have limited internet connections, there is a big risk of going over my limit and having to pay overage charges for content downloaded that i will never use or want. I was really looking forward to CC, however now i am being forced to uninstall Fallout 4 because of my limited SSD and internet data caps. Someone from Bethesda please let me know when this has been stopped and i will reinstall the game.”
The Rumor That Acts More Factual Than Fake
The next part has not been confirmed and is just a rumor, but the rumor at this point seems more like a reality than something fake. We can see YongYea discuss the rumor and more current problems looming around this thing called Creation Club.
Overall
The whole service seems like it’s just to nickel and dime you over something that you payed for, based on some initial feedback at the moment. What makes the whole program worse is that it did not launch with anything that you can’t already find on websites like NexusMods, meaning that it has nothing over said website regarding exclusive high-end content. Now you could easily say “hold your horseshoes, the program is still in beta, give it some time,” but that’s just the thing that Bethesda wants you to say, because time is money and money is power.
The program should have launched with something like Sir Bumfrey Diggles’ large-scale conversion mod instead of pre-existing stuff that you can download for free… like the Chinese Stealth Armor. Given the abysmal start, Bethesda will need to work really hard to get fans and gamers alike to appreciate the Creation Club, otherwise it could become even more sour during its early days of existence.
