Assassin’s Creed: Origins Ending Explained

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Origins for PC, PS4 and Xbox One is no small game. Even attempting to breeze through it will take just under 10 hours. Nevertheless, for people who don’t have that kind of time to figure out what the story is all about, maybe this little guide explaining the ending will help.

The game starts with Bayek, a Medjay (protector) from a small village in Egypt called Siwa. A ruler named Medunamun ends up coming to the village and takes over. Medunamun works for a secret society known as The Order, he ranks among them as one called The Ibis. He and his fellow cohorts — consisting of The Snake, Eudoros; The Heron, Rudjek; The Vulture, Actaeon; and The Ram, Ktesos — end up acquiring an orb that was in Bayek’s possession.

The Order believes that Bayek knows how to operate the orb and kidnap his son to convince him to get it to work. Bayek is then ambushed and kidnapped as well, where they threaten him to make the orb work or they’ll kill his son. Bayek explains he doesn’t know how to operate the orb and fights The Order, but his son is killed in the process while Bayek is injured and left for dead.

After grieving and traveling for months to track down the men responsible for his son’s death, Bayek returns to Siwa to properly exact revenge. He manages to take out most of the known members of The Order with help from his wife, Aya.

Bayek loves his wife and bangs her a lot…

…a whole lot.

It’s then revealed that Bayek and Aya’s memories are being accessed by someone named Layla Hassan.

Layla Hassan is inside the Animus in the present day. She was a hotheaded dropout who ended up building her own Animus after joining Abstergo as a low-level employee. Laya’s Animus, however, can access the DNA of various Assassins, even ones she has no relation to. She goes on the adventure to dive into Bayek and Aya’s memories in hopes of joining Abstergo and impressing the higher-ups at Abstergo.

Back inside the Animus Bayak manages to kill many of the lower level members of The Order, but also discovers that there are others, such as The Scarab, The Hyena, The Crocodile and the Lizard make up The Order of the Ancients.

As Bayek attempts to find out more about The Order, he discovers that one of the rulers named Sefetu is taxing people to death. Bayek attempts to find out more about Sefetu and discover the location of the mysterious villain known as The Scarab.

Bayek’s investigation takes him to his friend Taharqa, where after helping him restore his house and freeing his servants, Taharqa poisons Bayek and buries him alive in the sand, revealing that Taharqa is The Scarab.

Bayek manages to kill The Scarab, and then proceeds to track down Khaliset, the Hyena.

While venturing through Khaliset’s lair, Bayek discovers one of the ancient one’s tablets that reveals that they’re nothing more than messengers. Bayek also discovers that Khaliset was attempting to commit rituals around the tablet in hopes of restoring her dead daughter back to life, but it was a futile endeavor.

Assassin's Creed Origins - The Hyena

Bayek manages to kill The Hyena and then proceeds to seek out The Lizard. It’s revealed that The Lizard can somehow poison the air and kill people.

Bayek beckons with his words for  Aya to with him and for the two of them to be done with the killing; he attempts to persuade her for them to be together again after she visits him during his quest to seek out The Lizard. However, Aya reminds him that he is Medjay of Egypt and she is in service to Queen Cleopatra, but after The Lizard is killed they will finally be together again.

Assassin's Creed Origins - Cleopatra's Reign

Bayek and Aya discover that chief priest Hetepi was the one poisoning the Apis Bull and the people. Bayek manages to kill Hetepi and discover that he was the true Lizard.

However, despite killing the Lizard and hoping to get back to spending lazy days in the hot sun and banging Aya, Bayek is greeted with the sour news that Aya is traveling north with the Queen to continue to fulfill her duty by setting the sea aflame.

Bayek, meanwhile, travels to Faiyum to track down whom he believes to be the final member of The order known as The Crocodile.

Bayek meets with Hotephres to find out who The Crocodile is, but in attempting to find a ledger to identify The Crocodile, Hotephres’ daughter is killed and the ledger is stolen.

Assassin's Creed Origins - Berenike The Crocodile

After teaming up with an old friend in the arena, Bayek discovers that Berenike is The Crocodile, tracks her down and kills her.

During this time it’s also revealed that Abstergo found out about Layla Hassan’s project, and they sent Egyptian soldiers to kill Layla’s friend and to kill her.

Before the soldiers get to Layla, she goes back into the Animus where Bayek is assigned even more missions after killing all of the so-called members of The Order.

Assassin's Creed Origins - Animus

Cleopatra orders Bayek to kill The Jackal and The Scorpion, further forcing Bayek and Aya apart and preventing them from finding peace from killing.

In order to help subdue the civil uprising, Cleopatra joins with Julius Caesar, which helps Aya and Bayek get closer to The Jackal and The Scorpion, also known as Pothinus and Septimius. The plan works and Bayek is able to kill Pothinus, but Septimius is spared by Caesar after Ptolemy is killed, since Caesar feels that it was wrong to kill a Pharaoh.

Not only is Septimius spared, but he’s given a position next to Caesar and Cleopatra.

Even more than that, Cleopatra betrays and banishes Bayek and Aya from her services, making them outcasts in Alexandria.

Bayek and Aya feel as if justice must be administered, but they cannot do it in the open; Bayek gathers what small allies they have left and encourages them to walk in the shadows of true justice; a brotherhood of vigilantes; an order of killers; those who live by the Assassin’s creed.

Assassin's Creed Origins - The Promise

Bayek and Aya find out that Septimius has been working with Flavius to acquire Alexander’s staff and an orb – both items of Eden. It’s then revealed that Flavius is the final member of The Order, known as The Lion.

Bayek and Aya split up – Aya goes after Septimius and Bayek goes after Flavius. The journey is long and arduous but eventually Bayek tracks Flavius The Lion all the way to Cyrene to the Akropolis.

Bayek kills Flavius and then returns to Aya. Bayek begrudgingly reveals that every time he sees Aya all he feels is pain and is reminded of the tragedy of their son dying, despite loving her greatly. Aya is overcome with guilt for having put Cleopatra ahead of Bayek and for letting someone else’s ambition inhibit her from putting the people in need first. Both reluctantly acknowledge that they can never truly be together due to fate putting death and tragedy in their way.

Meanwhile William Miles from the Assassin’s Order manages to approach Layla when she comes out of the Animus and recruits her for his cause.

The two acknowledge that while they can never be together but that they have a higher calling to become poets of the kill, and instruments of justice working from the shadows.

Aya leads a naval assault against Rome and finds out that Caesar has become the new leader of The Order. She assassinates Septimius and then hides among the people and sneaks into senate forum where Aya – and the rest of the senate – assassinates Caesar.

Assassin's Creed Origins - Death of Caesar

After killing Caesar, Aya establishes an Assassins bureau in Rome. Bayek establishes an Assassins bureau in Egypt.

Aya proclaims in a letter to Bayek that she is dead and no longer who she once was; that she has renounced love and taken up nothing else in life but the creed to become a hidden one. She changes her name to Amunet and bids farewell to Bayek.

The game ends with Bayek as he finishes reading the letter. He stands atop a building overlooking Egypt as the title words of Assassin’s Creed: Origins is displayed. Before fading to black, Bayek’s son tells him to “jump” and Bayek performs a leap of faith.

Despite killing Rufio, it is revealed to Bayek that the ideals of The Order cannot be killed off with any single member.

Before heading back to Rome, Bayek and Amunet kill their former friend, Gamilat, for inciting massacres in order to build his rebel army against the Romans. In passing, Gamilat accepts his death after seeing the err of his ways, which results in Bayek establishing the new order of the Creed: No member of the Brotherhood shall kill an innocent.

After Gamilat is killed, Amunet and Bayek realize that heroes can be corrupted by ideals, but the order of a Creed will never tire. So they begin their expansion of the Brotherhood beyond the realm of Egypt establish the Assassin’s Creed.

TL;DR: Assassin’s Creed: Origins is ultimately a tragic love story about Bayek and his wife Aya. The two are happily married with a son, but after their child is killed by a secret society known as The Order, the two protectors of Egypt, known as Medjay, are thrust into a life of perpetual violence and tragedy. The killing weighs heavy on them both as the body count racks up in order to bring down The Order.

All their friends die, they lose many within their village, and they get betrayed by nearly everyone they know. They reluctantly, and angrily, acknowledge that fate won’t allow them to love one another and be together without tragedy encompassing their every move, hence they decide to go their separate ways. Through their anger and spite toward the injustices carried out by rulers, Aya and Bayek establish secret assassin orders across the Mediterranean in order to work from the shadows and bring down evil. The game ends with the title screen popping up directly after Bayek and Aya form the Assassin’s Order.
