Star Wars: Battlefront 2 From 2005 Has Multiplayer Restored With Cross-Play

GOG.com has announced that the real Star Wars: Battlefront II from Pandemic has had its multiplayer restored. The restoration of the multiplayer comes after Gamespy shut down many years ago and the multiplayer modes attached to various games died with it.

Disney made the announcement over on the Steam page, where they stated…

“Star Wars fans rejoice! Multiplayer support has returned for Battlefront II. Now you can draft your friends to the 501st legion and join up to 64 other players in a heated online battle for control of the galaxy. “

The full announcement, however, was posted up over on GOG.com, where the company announced that the classic third or first-person shooter has been updated to have its multiplayer powered by GOG Galaxy, allowing cross-play between GOG users and Steam users.

This means that you can dive back into the game and utilize all your awesome mods while playing with some of your friends (or foes).

It’s an interesting move with the open beta right around the corner for DICE and EA’s Star Wars: Battlefront II, which pales in comparison to the original game from back in 2005, which came with a four-player cooperative campaign mode, lots of maps, both space and ground-based battles, and the Galactic Conquest mode.

Gamers can now experience one of the best made Star Wars games… again. This time with the multiplayer completely intact and the ability to play with the DRM-free denizens from GOG.com.

I don’t have a lick of faith in DICE or EA to deliver a worthwhile experience with Star Wars: Battlefront II when it launches this November for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. But if you want to (re)play a quality-made game by a developer who actually cared about making a fun game, then you owe it to yourself to grab a copy of the 2005 outing of Star Wars: Battlefront II and load up a multiplayer game and have yourself the time of your life. If you don’t already own a copy, feel free to grab a DRM-free copy of the game from over on the GOG.com store for only $3.99.
