The team at Vidme announced that the online video service and its accompanying apps will be indefinitely suspended on December 15th, 2017. The announcement came originally via a tweet that links to a Medium post.

They originally got started as a small start-up in 2014, hoping to give creators an alternative voice outside of YouTube and Daily Motion. The site began to pick up steam in recent times following YouTube’s Adpocalypse, and a lot of the politically-motivated means of censorship that YouTube and Google have been applying to the service in order to render certain types of viewpoints inaccessible or hard to reach for the average user. YouTube’s Limited State Content policy really put into perspective that Google wants to control how and what kind of information you’re allowed to view.
However, the dream of Vidme being a viable alternative to YouTube is over… for now.
As mentioned in the Medium post, after December 15th you will no longer be able to view videos, or receive any monetary compensation for content. Effective immediately, all user account registrations and upload services have been disabled.
Subscriptions are being halted, and all verified payouts will happen within 60 days.
Interestingly enough, while all standard videos will be permanently removed from the Vidme servers, subscriber-only content will still be accessible by the owners.
If you have videos on Vidme you would like to backup, you can use the Vidme Video Manager to do so.
The wording here is very interesting insofar that it doesn’t say they’re permanently shutting down, and the post is titled “Goodbye for now”, indicating that they may be coming back… possibly under different ownership?
For now the service is being suspended but they state that they will update users via a Medium post in the future.
