Monster Hunter World Directors Explain Why It’s Not On Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch has moved millions of units and has brought the Big ‘N’ another record under its belt: being the fastest selling “home video game system” of all time in the U.S. Moreover, Monster Hunter World directors have different view of the Switch and explain why the action-adventure RPG won’t be on Nintendo’s console.

Back on January 4th of this year we learned that the Switch became the fastest selling “home video game system” of all time in the United States. So if Nintendo has a fast selling device on hand, why is it that Capcom and the directors over Monster Hunter World aren’t developing said title for it?

The answer lies below via an interview that IGN had with Monster Hunter World directors Kaname Fujioka and Yuya Tokuda. When asked if they had any plans to release Monster Hunter World on the Nintendo Switch, they responded…

“We don’t have any plans for the Switch at the moment. Part of the reason is that the title has been in development for almost 4 years. At the time we had to commit to our hardware choices, we decided on using the most powerful current generation consoles available at the time, which was PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. So [the decision was made] before the Switch was even announced or on sale.

“It’s also because for every title we decide what the best fit for hardware is for the concept. We don’t just look at everything. It’s more like “if we want to achieve this kind of game concept, where’s the best place to achieve that?” and for this title the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were the best fit for us.”

It’s worth noting that just because the two directors over Monster Hunter World don’t see a Switch port coming now does not rule out a future port.

Monster Hunter World will release worldwide for PS4 and Xbox One on January 26th, and for PC sometime this fall. In Japan, Monster Hunter World will only release for PS4.
