Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux Lands On Nintendo 3DS May 18th

Atlus announced that Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux is making its way to the Nintendo 3DS this spring starting May 18th.

The game is set in the Antarctic, where a specialist team is sent in to investigate the appearance of a mysterious force. Quite naturally, players will have their team taking on a demon scourge intent on destroying the Earth.

The Redux version of the game contains an all new set of story-oriented content, as the United Nations soldiers attempt to find out what lies behind the Schwarzelt. This also includes brand new illustrations by Masayuki Doi, along with brand new visual effects, an updated UI with better quality of life features, and an all new story path to follow.

Not only will there be a new story, but Atlus added in a brand new character for players to take on named Alex, who will have her own mystery to unravel. Brand new enemies have been added, an all new dungeon to explore has been implemented, and there are several new endings to unlock. It’s almost like a brand new game… except it’s not.

The original Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey came out back in 2010 for the original Nintendo DS, and so there’s likely an all new generation of gamers who are slightly older and a little less wiser intent on replaying the old handheld game.

It’s a shame Atlus didn’t bother porting it to the Nintendo Switch with updated visuals, but it is what it is. Then again, Atlus is also working on a brand new Shin Megami Tensei for the Switch, so it’s not all bad. Hopefully we’ll learn more about that one when E3 rolls around later this year.

In the meantime, you can get your hands on Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey starting this spring for the Nintendo 3DS for £34,99.
