Shinobi 7 wants to show gamers the way… the way toward tabletop gaming featuring Sonic and friends. A new physical board game called Sonic The Hedgehog: Battle Racers was announced, featuring the blue hedgehog and his buddies for game sessions ranging between two and five players.
According to the press release, Shinobi 7 will launch a Kickstarter to bring the Sonic The Hedgehog: Battle Racers board game to life. The crowdfunding drive will kick off during the early first half of February.
The Kickstarter version will include limited edition items for those who pledge, and if they’re successful they’ll have a physical retail version that will be made available in the back half of 2018. Diamond will handle retail distribution of the board game.
The game itself is themed around selecting your character, choosing your route, and finding your. Well, actually you’ll have to fight against Dr. Eggman’s baddies while avoiding opposing racers and various obstacles along the way. You’ll need to collect as many rings as possible and get to the finish line.
The main playable characters will include: Sonic, Knuckles, Amy, Tails, and Dr. Eggman.
Additional playing cards, tokens and race tracks will be included.
I can easily see this Kickstarter meeting its goal in record time. The Sonic community is massive and they’ve been waiting for a good 3D game since Sonic Generations, and since Sega won’t make one I’m sure they’ll be a-okay with Shinobi 7’s board game rendition.
The company is also responsible for making physical board games based on My Little Pony: Festival of Lights, My Little Pony Bestiary, Tokyo Ghoul: The Card Game and My Little Pony: Tales of Equestria. So they’ve definitely had experience with transforming popular properties into physical toys.
