Back in 2017 Sucker Punch revealed its latest open world game: Ghost of Tsushima. The title in question seeks to explore feudal Japan, and sees the fearsome Mongol empire invade the island of Tsushima. The PS4 game is currently in development and recent job listings likely reveal its release window.
During Sony Paris Game Week 2017 came a trailer showing the action-adventure title, Ghost of Tsushima, which is being published by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) and developed by Sucker Punch.
A description explaining the game lies below, if you don’t know what the game is about:
“The year is 1274. Samurai warriors are the legendary defenders of Japan–until the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the island of Tsushima, wreaking havoc and conquering the local population. As one of the last surviving samurai, you rise from the ashes to fight back. But, honorable tactics won’t lead you to victory. You must move beyond your samurai traditions to forge a new way of fighting–the way of the Ghost–as you wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Japan.”
Recent information pertaining to Ghost of Tsushima comes via a tweet that hints at the game, while showing off new studio space. The image reveals a neon mural of familiar faces and a few katanas.

The above tweet was posted two months ago as of this writing, but on the same topic of studio expansion comes job listings on Sucker Punch main site. The listings call for developers and other people to help out around the studio:
“We’re always looking for people who share our drive to make great games. We celebrate self starters who care about the details. So, if you’ve always wanted to work on a samurai game in feudal Japan, then check out our positions below.”
If you happen to be curious what jobs are currently up, five of them center around an Environment Artist, Senior Environment Artist, Facilities Coordinator, Senior HR Office Manager, and Gameplay Programmer.
Given that the team is looking for a Senior Environment Artist and Gameplay Programmer means the title may not release in 2018. If all goes well with development, Ghost of Tsushima could release in 2019 or 2020.
