Boss Key took to its official blog portal to announce the current state of LawBreakers, its online first-person arena shooter, and what the team has cooking up right now.
Folks who enjoy Cliff Bleszinski and Boss Key’s LawBreakers will find good and bad news coupled together in the latest announcement. The arena shooter did not do well nor did it perform as the team had expected, but a plan to revive the game is currently in motion.
The information relaying LawBreaker’s performance can be found over on bosskey.com, which elaborates on how the game failed to attract a dedicated audience, how the team will still support the game, and how there is another project in the works.
Firstly, the letter over on Boss Key’s site reads:
“It has been a while since we said anything about LawBreakers. With that, the past four months at Boss Key Productions has been especially trying, as we pride ourselves at being communicative and transparent.”
The letter continues and explains:
“So here is the very real truth, which may not come as a surprise.
The fact is LawBreakers failed to find enough of an audience to generate the funds necessary to keep it sustained in the manner we had originally planned for and anticipated. And while a pivot to free-to-play may seem like easiest change to make, a change of this magnitude takes publishing planning and resources to do it.”
The letter goes on to explain that Boss Key has worked hard on LawBreakers for the past three and a half years, and would like to give the arena shooter a second shot. However, something new has been in the works:
“The team here has worked hard on this game over the past three and a half years and our studio is determined to give this game the second life it deserves. However, between now and then, we cannot sit idle. We will continue to support the game in its current state, but we also need to focus on other projects with fresh creative leaders. We have been working on something new and we can’t wait to share more about it! It’s a passion project that we’re in complete control of.”
Uncertainty surrounding this new “passion project” currently remains intact, but we do know that Boss Key has full control over whatever it is.
Nevertheless, we’ll likely find out more about plans for LawBreakers and how Boss Key will attempt to breath life into it in the near future, and what this new “passion project” is all about sometime soon.
