It’s sad that the only time Xbox games trend is when old games become backwards compatible for the system. Microsoft has fostered a rather anti-creative culture where the only noteworthy exclusives on the Xbox One are Forza Motorsport, Halo and Gears of War games. Anyway, the Xbox One community managed to capture the attention of social media recently when Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb announced that Activision and Infinity Ward’s iconic seventh gen shooter, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, is currently available as a backwards compatible title for the Xbox One.
The news came courtesy of a brief tweet on August 28th, 2018 indicating that gamers who own a physical disc-based copy of the game for the Xbox 360 can plop it into the Xbox One and start installing the game right now, or if you own a copy of the game via an Xbox Live digital purchase, you can start downloading it to your profile on the local drive at this very moment.

If you don’t own a copy of the game you can either purchase a physical copy of the title or you can head to the Xbox Store and acquire a digital copy of the title.
In lieu of making Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 backwards compatible, Microsoft and Activision also discounted the game on the digital storefront.
For a lot of dude-bro gamers this game was the defining moment of first-person shooters for seventh gen gaming.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 joins a ton of other Call of Duty games that have also been made backwards compatible, including Call of Duty 2, 3, 4 and Advanced Warfare. Both the Black Ops games are on the list, along with Call of Duty: Ghost and Call of Duty: World at War.
So basically some of the sixth gen and all of the seventh gen Call of Duty games are now backwards compatible for the Xbox One.
