If you’re like me then you probably enjoy using tablets because of the lightweight potability, easy traveling companion, watching movies, or because they’re great for children and college students to transport around. There are a variety of different tablets available, it all depends on what your needs and desires are that determine what device will work best for you. For this comparison, I chose to compare a good affordable sturdy tablet in the Amazon 10-inch Fire HD with the highest storage capacity of 64GB, against a more high-end quality tablet like the 10.5-inch Apple iPad Pro Wi-Fi only with 64GB storage capacity.
Amazon Fire HD
Since the Amazon Fire HD will be considered the underdog, I will start with this tablet first. The Fire HD 7th generation was released October 2107, it is offered in three colors – Black, Blue and Red. The actual size is 10.1-inches and depending where the tablet is manufactured the weight will vary from 1.03 to 1.10 lbs. Now to cover the major specifications – it runs on an Android based operation system Fire OS 5, the resolution is 1920 x 1200 with full HD, 2GB RAM, internal storage of 32GB or 64GB, external storage using microSDXC up to 256GB. A CPU processor of 2x ARN Cortex-A72 1.8GHz Quad-Core processor.
The battery size is not mention in the specification, only that it averages around 10 hours of battery life. The Fire HD has two cameras, the rear facing camera has a 2mp, and the front facing camera 0.3mp, video recording is not installed, but other software can be installed to have access to recording on the Fire HD, It supports Bluetooth 4.1 LE, but +cellular is not available, and comes installed with Alexa who operates on the tablet with Amazons Echo.
iPad Pro 10.5-Inch
Now for Apples iPad Pro 10.5-inch model, Apples iPad Pro 10.5 debuted in June 2017, it is offered in four colors – Space Gray, Rose Gold, Gold, and Silver. Now to cover some of the major specifications – it’s currently running on iOS 11, but coming this September to the public is iOS 12, which will be made available for an upgrade. It weighs 1.03 lbs. The resolution is 2224 x 1668 with Retina display, the chip processor is A10X Fusion chip with 64-bit architecture, embedded M10 coprocessor, 4GB RAM, internal storage is offered in 32GB, 256GB and 512GB capacity. External storage SIM slot is not available.
The iPad Pro has a built-in 30.4-watt hour lithium-polymer battery with an average of up to 10 hours of battery life. Two cameras are provided, the rear camera sports a 12-mp f/1.8 aperture, and the front FaceTime HD camera is 7mp f/2/2 aperture, with video recording 1080p HD and 720p HD, supports Bluetooth 4.2 with the option of choosing models for Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi +Cellular models, with Siri installed.
Both tablets are considered to be very responsive when either searching the web, or watching movies, even though the iPad Pro has a more powerful processor, the Fire HD 10 has very little lag time in performance. The iPad Pro has the most current up-to-date apps available, however, Fire HD 10 does allow for users to download the Google Play Store for up-to-date apps, this may be a little more work, but you will still have access to the same apps.
The Fire HD allows for extra storage by providing a SD slot, where as the iPad Pro does not, The Fire HD is far more durable hands down, if you are known to be a klutz or you have small children to share a tablet with, you may want to consider this one just for being able to take a beating and keep on going. The iPad Pro has a thin sleek built, and is more fragile when it comes to bumps and drops, you definitely need a supportive cover case.
iPad Pro Camera vs Fire HD Camera
Hands-down the iPad Pro is the winner, there is no comparison in this area. If you enjoy basic gaming on the tablet the Fire HD is good, if you’re looking to play a little more in-depth games on a tablet consider the Apple iPad Pro. The clarity and sound on both tablets are about the same, it does depend on the user and what sound quality you’re looking for in music, and movies. The iPad Pro of course has the best resolution, but the Fire HD resolution is not far behind in putting out good quality clarity.
Price Points
The price point for the two of these tablets greatly differ, but it doesn’t mean the Amazon Fire HD 10 is a poor deal; as a matter of fact it’s a great deal for your money’s worth. The Fire HD 10 is priced at $204.99 without ads included in the tablet and $189.99 with ads, (to have the ads removed call customer service for a charge of $15.00.)
On Apple’s website the iPad Pro 10.5 price starts at $649 for 64GB, with Wi-Fi this does not included tax or Apple Care+.
