If you’re looking for something to play this weekend, you might be interested to know that Crackdown 2 has now been added to the growing list of titles supported by Xbox One backward compatibility. You might be even more interested to know that it’s 100 percent free.
Larry Hryb, better known to many as Xbox’s Major Nelson, took to Twitter this weekend to announce the arrival of Crackdown 2 via Microsoft’s backward compatibility functionality. That list has grown by hundreds over the years, giving gamers the chance to play their favorite 360 games like Alan Wake or the entire Gears or Halo saga. This functionality lets you pay for the games in order to download them onto your system or, if you already own them, download them or pop the disc into your Xbox One and play them just like you did in the good ole’ days. This has also allowed Microsoft to beef up its Games with Gold offerings, as each month’s Xbox 360 games are also supported by backwards compatibility, meaning Xbox One fans have four games to choose from as the library rotates.

It’s not too often they just throw out an extra free game, though, so the sudden arrival of Crackdown 2 on the service – free of charge, no less – was a pleasant surprise.
While the original Crackdown has been available as a backwards compatible game for quite a while and Crackdown 3 finally launched this past February, this latest move from Microsoft allows Xbox One gamers to finally complete the collection.
The Crackdown series may not have risen in fame as many would have thought following the success of the first game, they’re all a decent way to have some fun running around a big city, blowing stuff up. And, again, Crackdown 2 is now free and its download size is pretty tiny, so what do you have to lose?
