Assassin’s Creed ‘Viking’ Theme Possibly Teased In The Division 2

An image appearing within The Division 2 has created quite a bit of buzz in the Assassin’s Creed community lately, as an in-game poster for a historical exhibit looks to be offering a Norse setting for the storied franchise’s next campaign.

The Assassin’s Creed series has done quite a bit of time hopping over the years, venturing all over the globe to pop up at various pivotal points in world history. It’s visited Egypt, Rome, English castles, the American Revolution, the realm of pirates and, in spinoff games, even Russia and China. And thanks to a seemingly unimportant poster appearing in The Division 2, it seems like there’s a pretty good chance Viking history will finally be explored in the series’ unique fashion.

As pointed out within the Assassin’s Cred Wiki, the poster in The Division 2 is for an exhibit called Valhalla, which was scheduled to take place at the JFK center before the country fell to pieces. The poster boasts an image of a Norseman who appears to be standing on a cliff overlooking the ocean in flowing robes featuring an appropriate red and white. The man is holding a spear in his left hand and a golden sphere in the other. Viewed up close, it’s almost unquestionable that the sphere is an Apple of Eden, a very important artifact within the Assassin’s Creed universe.

Without getting too deep into Assassin’s Creed lore, these items are apparently the creation of a species known as Isu, which predated humanity. They pop up from time to time and, believe it or not, this isn’t the first time Viking history has been referenced in the series. The goddess Idun was noted in Assassin’s Creed 2 to have some sort of connection with the Apples of Eden, making the Division 2 poster’s reference to an upcoming game seem all the more likely.

The next Assassin’s Creed isn’t planned to drop until 2020, so we might be waiting a while for confirmation from Ubisoft. Then again, there are multiple games trade shows peppered throughout the next few months, so maybe we’ll get a little taste during E3 or Gamescom.
