Pre-orders are now live for the latest Microsoft Xbox One S All Digital. This means folks looking for a digital Xbox home console will get just that starting on May 7th, 2019. However, the upcoming device isn’t cheap and has Xbox enthusiast and others questioning why they would opt for an expensive disc-less option of the 2016 Xbox One S.
In case you missed out on the Xbox One S All Digital announcement on April 16th, 2019, it seems that you might have missed controversy surrounding the new disc-less home console. The new Microsoft device is said to live up to its meme name “SAD,” because the disc-free Xbox One S is currently the same price as its 2016 disc packed edition and sports a one terabyte hard drive that features digital downloads of Minecraft, Forza Horizon 3, and Sea of Thieves all for $249.99.
Although received poorly back in 2013 when Microsoft tried to introduce the concept with a used-game ban and a 24-hour check-in, along with a focus on digital TV streaming and home entertainment media services, the company is back at the digital scene again as found on news.xbox.com:
“At Xbox, we’re inspired by gamers – they’re at the center of everything we do. We’re constantly listening to your feedback and looking for new ways to provide the best value and choice in gaming. Today, we’re excited to announce a new choice we’re bringing to gamers – the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition.”
The official website revealing the SAD continues on about the games installed on the forthcoming home console via digital download:
“The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition was created for those who prefer to find and play their games digitally and are looking for the most affordable way to play Xbox games.”
According to YouTuber GAMEOVER86, he expresses how the SAD missed out on giving potential consumers Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Gold for three months, more than 1TB of storage space, and how the disc-drive exclusion is not worth the price especially given that the 2019 device is the same price as the 2016 edition:
Yet another YouTuber by the name of GhostRobo relays his disappointment with the SAD and how it’s a “huge miss.” He goes on to compare prices and other issues with newly unveiled device:
YouTuber the DreamCastGuy chimed in too on the SAD and touches on how it seems like Microsoft is rushing to be the first into the all-digital future by offering a console without a disc drive. Additionally, he thinks this experiment is interesting, but the DreamCastGuy has some issues with the device’s price point.
Other confused gamers trying to figure out the current gameplan of Microsoft sad move took to Twitter to understand price points between the 2016 and 2019 versions of the Xbox One S:
Exactly!! It doesn't make any sense to be $249

Even digital peddle pushers came out of the woodwork to reason the obscene pricing and could only come to the conclusion that the SAD is a poor choice.
because it’s meant for all digital customers. Steam box is about the same. No disc tray, and all digital platform box. Yes, you can get the bluray player which is cheaper, but the digital box was not meant for you. It was meant for a different crowd.

Poor choice, yes, I agree.

With all of that said, what are your thoughts on the Xbone SAD? Do you think when its price drops the console will be worth picking up or no?
