The final Anniversary Collection from Konami is all about Contra and, as of today, we finally know what 10 games will be included in this single package.
While we still don’t have a more specific release date than “early summer 2019,” we can confirm that Contra Anniversary Collection will launch for 20 bucks on the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. Even better, the full lineup of games has been announced and it’s looking pretty stellar.
While the Konami website still only has a quartet of games revealed, IGN has gotten confirmation from the developer concerning the full lineup. First up, we’re getting a pair of games from the arcade including Contra and Super Contra. The Game Boy offering is Operation C, with both Contra and Super C coming from the NES. Contra from the Famicom is also included. Over to the SNES and we’ve got Contra III: The Alien Wars and Super Probotector: Alien Rebels. Contra: Hard Corps, from the Sega Genesis, has made the cut, alongside the Mega Drive’s Probotector.
That’s a hell of a lot of running and gunning, with collectors likely to be pleased by the array of titles coming from various regions. It’s worth noting that the Probotector games were European versions of Contra with the playable characters replaced with a pair of robots. A digital book containing all sorts of history from the series will also be included in the collection and, after launch, six games will get Japanese variants as free DLC. These include the two arcade titles, plus Super C, Contra III, Operation C and Hard Corps.
The one major bummer in all of this is that, just like the other Anniversary Collection games for arcade classics and the Castlevania series, this will be a digital-only affair. Still, all those Contra games loaded in one package for $20 is a pretty good deal, digital or otherwise.
