Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja are proud to broadcast that there have been more than 1 million downloads for Dead or Alive 6: Core Fighters. The number is shared across all three platforms where the free version of the game has been made available, which includes Steam on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
Eventhubs picked up the news from a tweet made by the official Dead or Alive Twitter account, which informed the gaming audience of the milestone on May 16th, 2019.
“Thank you for 1,000,000+ Downloads of Core Fighters!!”We want to thank our fighters for playing #DOA6 and we’ll be giving out 100,000 Player Points as a gift. Make sure to update and redeem your points by 6/4 23:59 (PDT) fighters. #DOAFamily #DOA6

As depicted in the tweet, you can also get your hands on a 100,000 PP gift after the game updates and you log in. You must do so before June 4th to be eligible for the player points.
There are also a number of balances and updates made to the core fighting game, including balancing out the characters Tina, Ryu, Kasumi, Hayate, Leifang, La Mariposa, Hitomi, Nyontegu, and Phase 4.
Voice for Fanservice also shared a changelog highlighting each of the tweaks that Team Ninja made to Dead or Alive 6 following the latest patch.
In other news by the way,
-DOA6 core version has been downloaded 1 million times.
-They nerved Sidestep Attack which requires now meter. Game now shows you a 4 bar meter, where a Sidestep Attack requires 25% of your meter. Normal Sidestep can be still executed as much as you like pic.twitter.com/TNQsAaDhxW— Voice of Fanservice (@WarOnFanservice) May 16, 2019
Now while some people might think that the 1 million download mark is a real milestone and a big piece of news, keep in mind that it’s still free. Compared to other free games 1 million downloads isn’t all that much considering that some games net 10 million, or 50 million free downloads right off the bat, like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds or Apex Legends.
The other caveat to keep in mind is player retention. A good example is the aforementioned Apex Legends, which did get off to a strong start but then fizzled out quickly after EA’s promo money ran dry.
In this case, we have no idea what the engagement metrics are like for the PS4 and Xbox One. We do know that Dead or Alive 6 on Steam is not tracking well at all. The game averages just over 200 concurrent players at a time according to the Steam Charts.
When you compare that to Dead Or Alive Xtreme Venus Vacation, which is also on Steam, it’s tracking an average of 1,600 concurrent players a day, as noted on Steam Charts.
The game hasn’t been doing all that great on Twitch, with the average viewers being rather paltry for the latest entry in the fan-service fighter. Some of the average concurrent viewers for the live channels barely reached 40.
Even with the free version being available, Dead or Alive 6 still hasn’t surpassed 50,000 units moved on Steam. We don’t know how the numbers measure up on the Xbox One or PS4, though. It could be that a lot more people are putting in time and effort into the game on home consoles than on PC.
The premium version of the game got off to a rather unimpressive start in March when it moved 350,000 units during its launch month, which was 40% lower than what Dead or Alive 5 moved.
They launched the free version of the game just two weeks after Dead or Alive 6 was made available at retail and digital outlets. The sales hit a sizable hiccup right out of the gate with the grinding controversy and the season pass issues. Koei was quick to address some of the issues to regain some momentum but a lot of the damage had already been done, especially with the mixed messaging that was put out by producer Yohei Shimbori.
Dead or Alive 6 is currently available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
