Death Stranding news is reportedly set to drop on May 29th, 2019. Even if it could end up being another time-wasting tease, if you want to stay up to date on all things Hideo Kojima and Death Stranding, the latter part of this month should have you covered.
That’s right, the gaming console that is the opposite of The Boondock Saints 2 “Rocco’s speech” will see one of its exclusives, Death Stranding, supposedly gaining new details in some form on May 29th.
The information on Death Stranding to be detailed in a couple of days comes from website gematsu.com noting that…
“Following yesterday’s “Cut the Rope” teaser video, Kojima Productions has announced […] it will share the latest information on Death Stranding on May 29.”
Back on December 11th, 2019, Kojima took up an interview with publication site IGN to discuss what fans can expect from Death Stranding. For starters, the old trailer showing said game running on the Decima Engine is the earliest thing to happen in the game chronologically. In other words, it occurs right after the game’s prologue.
Another interesting point from the interview explains that when Sam or the player dies, they will go to a place that’s not a “game over” segment. Upon entering death in Death Stranding, you’re taken to a purgatory-like place that opts for free exploration in first-person. I’m not sure if that’s still in the current build of the game, but we might find out sometime soon.
Moreover, it is said that you can use “mysterious unique” abilities that Sam hones, where you can astral project outside of your body to find/recover items. Other “things” can be investigated in this mode, too.
During the 2017 interview, it is said that Kojima has been influenced by Kōbō Abe. Kojima referred to Abe’s ‘The Man Who Turned into a Stick’ and stated that the stick is the first tool that mankind created to put a distance between “himself” and “bad things.” He went on to say that the second tool mankind created is the rope.
Kojima’s interpretation of sticks and rope playing a part in Death Stranding according to the 2017 interview sits below:
“Most of your tools in action games are sticks. You punch or you shoot or you kick. The communication is always through these ‘sticks.’ In Death Stranding, I want people to be connected not through sticks, but through what would be the equivalent of ropes… But of course you will be able to use the sticks too.”
