May Games With Gold Titles Announced For Xbox One And Xbox 360, Are Abysmal

Microsoft has announced its Games with Gold collection for May and, well, they’re technically games. I try to be open-minded about these things, but this month’s roster has me wondering if the bottom of the barrel has truly been reached.

Each month, Xbox Live Gold subscribers gain access to a rotating lineup of four games. You can download these games at no additional charge to your Live subscription and keep them for as long as you like. Each month’s crop of games includes a pair of Xbox One titles and a pair of Xbox 360 titles, which can also be played on the Xbox One thanks to backwards compatibility.

The problem in May is that few people are likely to want to download or play these offerings.

First up, we’ve got Marooners for the Xbox One, which will be available from May 1-31 according to the official announcement. If you’re looking for (searches the internet to figure out what the hell I’m looking at) a super kid-friendly collection of party games, well, you’ve come to the right place.

The second Xbox One offering in May is The Golf Club 2019, which you can grab from May 16 to June 15. This one actually has some decent reviews, but I’m guessing any golf fans probably already has it since it’s one of maybe two golf games that launched last year.

The one shining light from May’s Gold collection is Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon. It’s the black sheep of the EDF family, but it’s decent campy fun if all you want to do is shoot huge insects and alien invaders with a bunch of crazy weapons. And you can do exactly that if you download the game from May 1-15.

Finally, from May 16-31 you can grab Comic Jumper, a platformer/action game set in a fictional comic book world. This one apparently has some fans out there, so maybe it’ll win you over, too?
