Psyonix Reportedly Removes Regional Pricing From Rocket League In Certain Countries On Steam

You do know who Psyonix is, no? Psyonix is the publisher and developer over the game Rocket League. In the U.S. the game is described as a soccer game with vehicles, but other countries would label it as a fantastical vehicular version of football. Well, the title available for PC and home consoles seemingly has dropped regional pricing in some countries on Steam.

According to sub-Reddit r/Games and forum thread metacouncil.com, Psyonix has gone through with the act of demolishing the system of regional pricing. In other words, if you live in a country outside of Rocket League’s pricing and you use Steam, you might have to pay more instead of currency conversion to match the appropriate retail listing.

According to user MJunioR, from the latter portal, he took the initiative to compile a list of Rocket League price hikes in different countries. The places affected by this change include Argentina, Brazil, India, Mexico, Russia, Taiwan, and Turkey:

  • Argentina: AR$ 224,99 to AR$1153,00
  • Brazil: R$ 36,99 to R$ 83,05
  • India: ₹ 565 to ₹ 1435
  • Mexico: Mex$ 179.99 Mex$ 400.05
  • Russia: 419 ₽ to 1331,05 ₽
  • Taiwan: NT$ 468 to NT$ 628
  • Turkey: ₺31,00 to ₺116,05

You can see an image of this practice in play with someone from Argentina showing the Rocket League price hike by hitting up the given link.

You wouldn’t be wrong to think that all of this may be fake or something, but behold other people have taken to Steam to testify that prices have gone up in their country like Brazil, as listed below:

Another person chimed in too, resinating with the South American:

Rumors are floating around saying that this move is to comply with the Epic Games Store non-regional pricing system. If you recall, back on May 1st, 2019, Psyonix released this letter on rocketleague.com:

“Today is a big day for us here at Psyonix because, just as the headline says, we’re officially joining the Epic Games family.

Your first question to news like this might be, “What does this mean for Rocket League and its community?” We’re happy to say that the answers are only positive. Rocket League always has been and always will be a community-driven game, and now that we have joined forces with Epic, we will be able to serve our community in even bigger and better ways!”

Later, on May 1st, the devs would release the following letter to clarify what’s going on with Rocket League, Steam, and Epic:

“We are continuing to sell Rocket League on Steam, and have not announced plans to stop selling the game there. Rocket League remains available for new purchasers on Steam, and long-term plans will be announced in the future”

While we wait to see if this move is truly to fit in with the rest of the Epic Games Store lacking features, Rocket League is out now across PC via Steam, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
