Horizon: Zero Dawn 2 Hinted at in Job Listing

A recent job listing by Guerilla Games has let slip the company continues to work on the Horizon universe, leading many outlets and gamers to believe a sequel announcement will soon be forthcoming.

There is some wisdom behind this belief. Although occasionally there is a slip-up in a job announcement, publishers and developers are very tight lipped about the projects they are announcing. Often job announcements are deduced to be referencing a sequel through a combination of the nature of the company’s work, the job description, and timing leading to only a few potentialities being plausible.

In this listing there is no casual hinting that can be extrapolated to infer a sequel is in development. The listing outright states they are working on the Horizon universe. Although it could be a surprise issuing of the cancelled second expansion to the original, it is more likely a sequel is in development.

“Within Guerrilla, we have four teams dedicated to creating the stunning environments of Horizon. One team focuses on the creation of lush and stunning vegetation. We build these 3D models from scratch, so our world dressing teams can deliver our immersive world with industry-benchmark graphics.”

As of this writing there is no announcement or information on Playstation Experience happening this year. With the event typically happening in early December a last minute announcement is highly unlikely at this juncture. Though that doesn’t rule out a special State of Play –Sony’s version of Nintendo’s Direct- or an announcement at the increasingly cringe Video Game Award show. Whatever form the announcement takes it will likely be soon given the brazen nature of the job listing.

Whether the game will be revealed as a Playstation 5 exclusive or cross-gen title is still up for debate. It is no secret Sony is going to need some blockbusters to help sell their projected $500 console given the unpopularity that pricey price tags have had in the past.

A better question is: will the game continue it’s wokeness for the sequel? Given the original title was a mediocre Monster Hunter clone hybridized with the Ubisoft formula whose voice actress and director both confirmed the games feminist angle and both will likely reprise their roles the answer is likely yes. Gamer’s can thus expect another outing of girl power, men are evil or stupid or a fatal combination of both, and a lot of LGBT representation.
