Red Dead Redemption 2 PC port has been bogged down by numerous issues, and that’s not to mention the one-month Epic Games Store timed exclusivity and other problems the game has. Well, it looks like those problems have caught up with it on Gaben’s storefront, according to a new report.
2K and Rockstar Games have released Red Dead Redemption 2 on PS4 and Xbox One back in October 2018. Fast-forward to November 2019, and the cowpoke game would have a PC port that can give gamers more problems than a 19th-century farmer.
Although Rockstar happens to be seeding updates and other fixes to Red Dead Redemption 2 as if it were a plastic surgeon trying to fix its botched work, gamingbolt.com has crunched some numbers and feels like Rockster isn’t hitting it with the wild west game’s Steam launch:
“Yesterday, which was the game’s launch day, Red Dead Redemption 2 managed a measly peak concurrent player count of roughly 12,000 players. Today has seen the numbers climb a little bit, with the figure sitting at over 27,000 at the time of writing. Both those numbers are a far cry from the constant and massive success Rockstar’s own GTA 5 has enjoyed on Steam for literally years now
Of course, the fact that the game has been out on PC for over a month on other storefronts is a factor, and those who’ve already purchased the game obviously won’t be doing so again through Steam. That said, the numbers still present a disappointing picture.”
According to Steam’s stat list, Red Dead Redemption 2 hasn’t even made the top ten list. As a matter of fact, the game isn’t even in the top 20 list.
For comparison, Halo: The Master Chief Collection has 73,330 concurrent players and a peak of 97,119 people playing. Grand Theft Auto V has 52,686 current players and a peak of 117,025. Monster Hunter: World boasts 17,038 current players and a peak of 64,934.
And lastly, a game that is going on five years old, Fallout 4, is rivaling Red Dead Redemption 2 with a current player count of 14,182 and a peak of 16,124.
It’s always possible that a game can do a 180, but if the bugs, performance issues, and its mixed rating persist, the game could continue down a sad country road.
Red Dead Redemption 2 hit PC via Steam on December 5th, 2019. The game is also on the Epic Games Store, Rockstar Games Launcher, Greenman Gaming, and the Humble Store since November 5th.
