Godfall Devs Announce Duelyst Will Shutdown On February 27th, 2020

In the digital-only world where if a game’s servers go down, it means you’ll never be able to play it ever again. Well, it looks like Bandai Namco and Counterplay Games’ Duelyst is going down the same path on February 27th, 2020.

If you have no idea as to what Counterplay Games has under its belt, it’s only one game and that one game is Duelyst. However, the dev team is leaving out from under Bandai Namco’s wing and is now huddling under Gearbox to deliver the PC via Epic Games Store and PS5 title, Godfall:

Well, besides the upcoming next-gen “looter-slasher,” Counterplay Games doesn’t seem to have a pleasant track record since the team’s first (and only) game on the market is going belly up.

Here’s the official sunset letter regarding the strategy collectible card game’s fate by Counterplay Games:

“We are saddened to announce that the Duelyst servers will be shutting down permanently on February 27th, 2020 at 3:00 PM PST. Saying goodbye to any game is never easy, and it’s always hardest when you love the game as much as we all love Duelyst. We’re incredibly proud of the effort our developers have put in on Duelyst over the years, and even more proud of the amazing community of friends and gamers that have enjoyed Duelyst.

Players will no longer be able to purchase Diamonds as of the time of this announcement.

We will provide refunds on all Diamond purchases made between December 21st, 2019 and January 24th, 2020 upon request. To request a refund, please visit our support page and submit a ticket. All refund requests must be received by March 30th, 2020 to be honored.”

A lot of fans and veterans of Duelyst lamented how the dev team pretty much gave up on updating and balancing the strategy CCG, which could foreshadow a grim future for Godfall — a game that is dependent on updates given its looter-slasher nature.

Seeing all these issues stacking up like Duelyst being abandoned in that it is now shutting down, no mobile version as promised back in 2018, Godfall becoming an Epic Games Store timed exclusive, and partnering with Gearbox publishing division and Randy Pitchford are signs that the PC and PS5 looter-slasher could face a similar fate as Duelyst.

Anyway, if you want to make the most out of the CCG known as Duelyst, you can play it right now before it goes offline on February 27th, 2020.
